Yes, completely free. There are no paywalls, subscriptions, or premium tiers. All features are available to every registered user at no cost.
Matematyka is fully responsive and works on desktops, laptops, tablets, and mobile phones. Use any modern browser β Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge.
Topics
How topics are structured
Content is organised into a clear three-level hierarchy to make it easy to find exactly what you need:
-
Level Choose your exam level β National 5, Higher, or Advanced Higher.
-
Topic Select a broad area, such as Algebra, Trigonometry, or Calculus.
-
Section Dive into a specific section within a topic, such as Factorising Expressions or Solving Quadratics.
Topic notes & worked examples
Each section contains clear, curriculum-aligned notes written for SQA students. Topics include worked examples that show the exact method examiners expect, along with key rules and formulae.
Use the notes as a reference when revising, then test yourself with the section quiz to check your understanding.
Tip: Use the level filter at the top of the Topics page to quickly switch between National 5, Higher, and Advanced Higher content without navigating back.
Matematyka covers the three main SQA maths levels:
- National 5 β the foundation level, sat in S4 or S5
- Higher β the most common university entry requirement
- Advanced Higher β the highest SQA maths level
Yes. At the top of the Topics page you'll find a level dropdown. Selecting a level updates the list to show only the topics and sections for that level. Your preferred level is also saved to your account settings so it persists across sessions.
Yes. All content is written specifically for the Qualifications Scotland (SQA) curriculum and exam format. Notes focus on the methods, notation, and depth of knowledge expected at each level.
Your Progress
How progress is tracked
Every quiz you complete is saved to your account. Your dashboard shows an overview of how you're doing across all topics, including your latest scores, the number of quizzes completed, and areas where you might need more practice.
Progress is tracked per topic and per section, so you can see at a glance which areas you're confident in and which need more attention.
What is tracked
-
Quiz scores The score you achieve each time you complete a quiz, shown as a percentage.
-
Quiz history A log of every quiz attempt, including the date and score, so you can track improvement over time.
-
Topic completion Which topics and sections you've worked through so you can see your overall curriculum coverage.
Yes β you can retake any quiz as many times as you like. Each attempt is saved separately in your quiz history so you can see how your score changes over time.
Each question carries a set number of marks (usually 1). Your score is the total marks you earned divided by the total marks available, expressed as a percentage. Each question also shows the correct answer and an explanation at the end of the quiz so you can learn from any mistakes.
If you've shared your user code with a teacher, they may be able to see your progress within their class view. Your progress is never shared publicly or with anyone outside the platform.
Quizzes
Taking a quiz
-
Choose a quiz Go to Quizzes and select a level, then pick a topic or section quiz, or choose a full mock exam.
-
Answer the questions Read each question carefully and select or type your answer. You can navigate between questions before submitting.
-
Submit and review Once you've answered all questions, submit the quiz. Your score is shown immediately, along with the correct answer and explanation for every question.
Question types
Multiple Choice
Four answer options are shown. Select the one you think is correct by clicking it, then move to the next question. There is always exactly one correct answer.
Typed Answer β Text
Type your answer into the text field. Your response is compared against the correct answer. Spelling and spacing must match, so read the question carefully for what form the answer should take.
Typed Answer β Maths
Type a mathematical expression or value. The system evaluates your answer mathematically, so equivalent forms such as 2x + 1 and 1 + 2x are both accepted as correct.
Mock Exam
A timed full-length practice paper covering all sections of the curriculum for your chosen level. Sits under the Quizzes page and follows the same format as the real SQA exam.
Tip: After submitting a quiz, always review the explanations β even for questions you got right. Understanding why an answer is correct is just as important as getting it right.
A section quiz tests you on a single section within a topic (e.g. just "Factorising Quadratics"). A topic quiz covers all sections within a broader topic (e.g. all of "Algebra"). Use section quizzes to practise targeted skills and topic quizzes for broader revision.
Yes. During a quiz you can navigate freely between questions using the question number panel. You can change any answer as many times as you like before you press Submit.
If you close the browser or navigate away before submitting, your quiz attempt will not be saved. You will need to start again from the beginning when you return.
For maths typed questions, type your answer using standard notation:
- Use ^ for powers β e.g. x^2 for xΒ²
- Use * or just write terms next to each other for multiplication β e.g. 2x or 2*x
- Use / for division β e.g. 3/4
- Use sqrt(x) for square roots
Equivalent expressions are accepted β the system evaluates both your answer and the correct answer mathematically before comparing them.
Accounts
Student accounts
A standard student account gives you access to all topics, quizzes, progress tracking, study plans, and personal notes. Signing up is free and takes less than a minute.
During sign-up you'll choose your exam level (National 5, Higher, or Advanced Higher). This sets your default topic view but you can change it any time in your settings.
Teacher accounts
Teachers can create an account with elevated access that allows them to manage classes and view student progress. A Teacher Access Code is required when signing up as a teacher β this is provided separately by the Matematyka team.
Teacher accounts have access to a dedicated teacher dashboard in addition to all the standard student features.
Creating an account
